This course will reflect on the boundaries, expectations and policies that exist in leadership, for the lay leader’s protection and the people being served. It will also help to develop an understanding of leading through accountability to one’s own self, in the living out of self-care and care for others.

Course Developers

Elaine Sauer
Bishop Elaine Sauer received her Bachelor of Education after studies at the University of Victoria and University of Saskatchewan. She graduated with a Masters of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1998. She served with Youth and Campus Ministry in the MNO Synod and then as Assistant to the Bishop for Synodical Relations. She was Bishop for the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Synod from 2006-18. She is married to Rev. Rick Sauer and lives in Winnipeg. The Sauers have three adult sons.
Heather McCance
Rev. Heather McCance has served as an assistant curate and incumbent in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto for over 20 years. She holds a B.A. from the University of Waterloo in Religious Studies, and Masters of Theology and Divinity degrees from the University of Toronto. As a Diocesan Ministry Developer, she coordinates the training and formation for all those in leadership in ministry - lay and ordained - within the Diocese of Rupert's Land.
